This 6-month internship prepares new Graduate Nurses for an RN position in the Pediatric Cardio-Thoracic Unit (PCTU) at Mott Children's Hospital, focusing on the specialized care of infants, children, adolescents, and adults with congenital and acquired heart disease. The role involves performing complex physiological patient assessments in a high-intensity environment with advanced medical technologies.
Responsibilities
- Provide medical and surgical care to infants, children, adolescents, and adults with congenital and acquired heart disease in the PCTU
- Perform complex physiologic patient assessments for high acuity patients with rapidly changing status
- Utilize technology-intensive equipment including ECMO, CRRT, and VAD's
- Practice in close partnership with cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, and fellows
- Provide individual support and education to families and patients throughout their intensive care unit admission
Requirements
- Graduate Nurse or Newly Licensed RN who has less than one year RN experience
- Successfully completed an accredited BSN
- Successful completion of the NCLEX no later than 45 days from individual start date

- Graduate Nurse or Newly Licensed RN with less than one year RN experience
Nice to Have
- Student nurse clinical experience in a PCTU
- Experience as an extern or ICU tech in a PCTU
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills
- Highly motivated and organized
- Demonstrated leadership abilities
- Takes initiative in seeking professional growth
- Demonstrates expertise in communication and problem-solving skills
- Overall GPA of 3.5 or higher
