Provide high-level specialty care to patients in the Neuro Critical Care Unit, primarily those from neurosurgery, neurology, stroke, otolaryngology, and oral maxillofacial surgery services. This role involves managing complex medical problems like thrombectomies, craniotomies, and traumatic brain injuries, requiring critical care expertise.
Responsibilities
- Care for patients from neurosurgery, neurology, stroke, otolaryngology, and oral maxillofacial surgery services
- Manage medical problems including thrombectomies, post-operative craniotomies for brain tumors, cerebral aneurysms, and intracranial hemorrhage/hematomas
- Oversee patients with severe head and/or spinal cord injuries and increased intracranial pressure
- Assess free flaps and utilize doppler usage
- Perform tracheostomy care and management
- Manage traumatic brain injuries (TBI), Myasthenia Gravis, Status Epilepticus, and Guillain-Barre syndrome
- Oversee care for intubated patients and manage external ventricular drains (EVDs)
- Perform seizure management and arterial line supervision
Requirements
- Current Michigan RN license
- Minimum of two (2) years ICU/Critical Care RN experience within the last five (5) years
- Valid ACLS certification solely through the American Heart Association (AHA)
Qualifications
- Minimum of two (2) years ICU/Critical Care RN experience within the last five (5) years.
Nice to Have
- BSN preferred
- CCRN certification
- Neuro-Trauma ICU experience
- Experience with nursing care in post-operative patients
- Experience overseeing care for intubated patients
- Experience managing external ventricular drains (EVDs)
- Experience with seizure management
- Experience with arterial line supervision
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Strong patient advocate mentality and teamwork approach
