About This Role

The R&D Operations Manager leads the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of R&D laboratory and pilot lab facilities at both WHQ and St. Simons Island sites. This role involves managing a team of technicians, ensuring excellence in safety, food safety, inventory, and equipment maintenance, to support research and development activities.

Responsibilities

  • Champion and enforce safety protocols, exceeding company and regulatory standards, conducting regular audits and risk assessments.
  • Oversee implementation of food safety and sanitation protocols, ensuring compliance with regulations and internal standards.
  • Oversee processes for ordering, receipt, and storage of ingredients and supplies, optimizing storage spaces and coordinating cross-site needs.
  • Manage day-to-day pilot lab operations, oversee facilities technicians for equipment maintenance, calibration, and timely repairs.
  • Direct, coach, and develop a team of Facilities Technicians, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
  • Standardize processes and policies across both labs to ensure consistency and operational excellence.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety, maintenance, inventory, and compliance activities and manage the annual budget for supplies and equipment maintenance.
  • Promote a culture of safety through ongoing education and visible leadership.
  • Serve as the primary contact for food safety-related issues and corrective actions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field related to the food and beverage industry
  • 5+ years of experience in a food and beverage company or pharmaceutical company
  • Previous experience in lab and pilot plant operations, equipment, and maintenance protocols
  • Strong understanding of food safety, quality regulations, and compliance standards
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence
  • Strong organizational and data management skills
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
  • Awareness of, and ability to promote Associate Safety and Food Safety guidelines

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field related to the food and beverage industry
  • At least 5 years of experience in a food and beverage or pharmaceutical company, with previous experience in lab and pilot plant operations, equipment, and maintenance protocols.
