About This Role

The Cowichan Valley Department of Psychiatry of Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) is seeking a General Psychiatrist to join their Mental Health and Substance Use (MHSU) programs. This role involves working within a continuum of services at Cowichan District Hospital and Duncan's Mental Health Substance Use programs, providing comprehensive psychiatric care and contributing to program development.

Responsibilities

  • Consult to Short Term Services, including community Crisis Response and Brief interventions
  • Consult to Case Management Services for moderate community support and ACT team
  • Consult to Substance Use programs, including counselling and access to residential treatment
  • Participate in separate psychiatric services for seniors provided by Island Health
  • Support two tertiary psychiatry facilities in the Cowichan Valley
  • Provide psychiatrist on-call response with a crisis response team for the Cowichan District Hospital Emergency Department
  • Attend clinical team meetings and provide reports to the Department of Psychiatry meetings
  • Contribute to the development of psychiatry services within a brand new acute care campus
  • Potentially engage in training of medical students and residents, and apply for a clinical appointment with UBC Faculty of Medicine Island Medical Program
  • Participate in research supported and facilitated by Island Health
