Provide quality patient care using the nursing process, including assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for adult patients with mood, thought, and chemical dependency disorders. Supervise and guide daily activities in specialized psychiatric units within a patient care team.
Responsibilities
- Provide proper supervision and guidance in the daily activities of the program as part of a patient care team
- Maintain a safe and therapeutic patient environment
- Demonstrate and maintain competence in therapeutic communication, supportive counseling, small group dynamics, scheduled activities, and therapeutic milieu
- Implement restrictive measures with patients in collaboration with medical staff when necessary
- Assist in the training, orientation, and teaching of new staff members
- Perform medication administration duties
- Implement physician orders accurately and with proper documentation
- Access emergency medical care for patients, provide reports to the Emergency Room, and facilitate records prior to patient return
- Determine patient acuity and make patient care assignments
- Facilitate admission and discharge processes, ensuring comprehensive, accurate, and documented information
- Participate in the treatment team process by interacting with the multidisciplinary team
- Apply Infection Control, Hospital Emergency, Hazardous Materials Management, and Patient/Proprietary Information Confidentiality policies
- Formulate nursing diagnosis (using NANDA taxonomy) and use standard DSM IV classifications of mental disorders
- Develop patient-centered, time-oriented, and measurable treatment plans unique to each patient’s needs
- Perform ECG, VP, and Bedside Glucose Meter procedures
Requirements
- Current licensure as a registered professional nurse in the State of Tennessee
- CPR certification
Qualifications
- A graduate of an accredited nursing school
Nice to Have
- Previous experience in the practice of psychiatric nursing
