About This Role

Manage a portfolio of Literacy and Immigrant Services programs for the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development, ensuring contract compliance, providing technical assistance to community-based organizations, and supporting initiatives to alleviate poverty and promote community flourishing.

Responsibilities

  • Review budgets, programmatic and contract documents for final approval
  • Perform desk reviews and/or in-person site visits (potentially weekends/evenings in any of the five boroughs of New York City) using monitoring tools
  • Share feedback in a timely manner with Community-Based Organization (CBO) contract providers
  • Provide technical assistance and monitor strategic action and/or corrective action plans for underperforming CBO contractors
  • Advance knowledge of program sites by providing technical assistance and sharing resources to promote program quality
  • Evaluate contract performance reports and agency fiscal documents to ensure contract compliance
  • Participate in contract development
  • Become proficient and provide training to CBOs on Agency's web-based program management systems and DYCD’s protocols
  • Make summary reports to higher administrative levels along with recommendations to improve program performance
  • Prepare standard reports as designated by higher management
  • Serve as a contact point for borough-based issues on behalf of the Community Development programs and the agency
  • Maintain programmatic goals and benchmarks, communicate effectively, troubleshoot, and strategically identify creative solutions for programmatic challenges

Requirements

  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties; OR High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties; OR equivalent education and/or experience, with at least one year of experience as described in the first option.

Qualifications

  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or equivalent
  • 2 years of experience in community work or community centered activities; or 6 years with high school diploma/equivalent, with at least one year of experience as described.

Nice to Have

  • Strong oral and written communication, organizational and analytical skills
  • Strong ability to juggle multiple projects and priorities
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of target populations shown through management of relevant programs
  • Extensive experience in and working knowledge of developing human services programs and program budgets
  • Knowledge of New York City contracting processes
  • Computer literate with advanced skills in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access
