This role involves identifying and resolving complex policy issues for Google's Platforms and Devices Product Area. It requires collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure trust, mitigate risks, and promote responsible development and innovation, including aspects of Responsible AI.
Responsibilities
- Identify and analyze novel policy issues facing technology platforms
- Make recommendations on how to address policy issues and manage high-impact policy escalations
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure policy analysis and recommendations incorporate diverse perspectives
- Drive awareness and understanding of product policies and resolve high-profile policy issues
- Develop and advance first principles for trust risk areas and set industry standards
- Work effectively in ambiguous and dynamic environments with rapidly evolving information and decisions
Requirements
- 5 years of experience in a policy, legal, Trust and Safety, engineering, or other technology environment
- Experience developing, drafting, implementing, and maintaining platform, developer, or product policies
- Experience engaging with online policy issues, content abuse, privacy, or other tech law/regulation
- Experience in product management focused on product and user safety
- Experience in AI-related policy issues, APIs, hardware, devices, or related products
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
- 5+ years of experience in a policy, legal, Trust and Safety, engineering, or other technology environment.
Nice to Have
- JD, MBA, or Master’s degree
- Experience with mobile ecosystems (including developers)
- Knowledge of the technology sector, key policy issues affecting the internet (e.g., harmful content, privacy, AI), or safety engineering
- Ability to translate complex issues into simple and clear language
- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders and navigate organizational boundaries
- Ability to communicate effectively in person, public settings, and in writing
- Ability to identify/gather insights and communicate complex technology policy issues
- Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills with attention to detail
