Produce Clerk

About This Role

Create an outstanding customer experience for customers in the produce department by assisting them, preparing items, and maintaining a safe and clean environment. Maintain knowledge of products to respond to questions and make recommendations.

Responsibilities

• Acknowledge, assist and appreciate customers
• Promote Corporate Brands to customers
• Create an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important and appreciated
• Answer questions and make suggestions about products in the produce department and throughout the store
• Assist with the preparation of produce platters/trays
• Inform customers of produce specials and recommend items
• Adequately prepare, package, label and inventory merchandise
• Review/inspect products for quality and freshness and take appropriate action
• Label, stock and inventory department merchandise
• Report product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager
• Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained and temperature logs are kept
• Reinforce safety programs, identify unsafe conditions, and notify store management
• Inspect equipment and notify management of items needing repair
• Notify management of customer or employee accidents
• Report all safety risks or issues, and illegal activity

Requirements

• Ability to handle stressful situations
• Effective communication skills
• Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, subtractio)
• Current food handlers permit once employed

Nice to Have

• Comparable Retail experience
• Second language (speaking, reading and/or writing)
