Principal Parks/Facilities Maintenance Worker - CDL

About This Role

This role involves performing a variety of general park maintenance tasks, including playground repairs, grass mowing, and athletic field maintenance, while operating mid-sized to large equipment for the Montgomery County Department of Parks.

Responsibilities

• Perform general parks maintenance tasks such as playground repairs, grass mowing, and trash removal
• Conduct athletic field renovation and maintenance, including raking, dragging, and grading fields
• Maintain trails, plant and prune trees, and perform aftercare cleaning
• Clean and repair park buildings and structures
• Operate trucks, tractors with attachments, large riding mowers, loaders, and forklifts, including those requiring a CDL
• Occasionally supervise park maintenance employees
• Perform minor repairs to playground equipment, carpentry, custodial, and preventive maintenance tasks
• Respond to emergencies and inclement weather conditions
• Maintain inventories of supplies and materials
• Perform stormwater facilities preventive maintenance according to Department of Environment Protection standards
• Maintain bio-retention and rain garden facilities with balanced vegetation and free of weeds

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience in groundskeeping, building maintenance or park maintenance
• Ability to operate mid-sized to large equipment (mowers, tractors, backhoes, loaders, trucks)
• Ability to perform minor repairs to playground equipment, carpentry, custodial, and preventive maintenance tasks
• Ability to work independently and be proficient in grounds maintenance and custodial services
• Valid driver’s license

Qualifications

• High school diploma or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED)
• Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in groundskeeping, building maintenance or park maintenance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice to Have

• Trade skills in carpentry and painting
• Proven ability to read and understand materials and instructions
• Ability to write routine records and reports
