About This Role

The Park Police Officer will maintain public peace, protect life and property, enforce laws, and conduct basic investigations within Montgomery County's parks. This role involves patrolling park lands, responding to calls, and assisting with crowd control at various events. A strong character, good judgment, honesty, reliability, and steadfast integrity are essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain public peace, protect life and property, and enforce laws
  • Conduct basic investigations under general supervision
  • Patrol regional parks or assigned areas in a patrol car, motorcycle, horseback, or foot
  • Observe and report incidents of vandalism, violations of state law, and park rules and regulations
  • Note and report unsafe and unsightly conditions within parks
  • Direct traffic and parking; respond to calls for service and render assistance as needed
  • Secure crime or accident scenes and take initial statements from victims and witnesses
  • Apprehend, arrest, and book suspects; write reports on incidents during patrol
  • Assist with crowd control at various Commission and community events
  • Prepare cases and appear in court to testify as arresting officer or witness

Requirements

  • Graduation from a State of Maryland mandated entrance level training academy for police (or approved entrance-level training program for Advanced Entry Officers)
  • Age 21 by graduation from academy
  • Successfully pass any medical and/or psychological examinations
  • Maintain all required certifications and licenses
  • Valid driver’s license unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points

Qualifications

  • At least one year of experience as a Police Officer

Nice to Have

  • Currently a Certified Police Officer in another state
