About This Role

Conduct independent and collaborative research in the Kawasumi Lab focusing on skin cancer biology and epigenetics, elucidating molecular mechanisms of UV-induced DNA damage responses and genetic/epigenetic changes.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct independent and collaborative research projects in the Kawasumi Lab primarily on skin cancer biology and skin cancer epigenetics
  • Investigate genomic and epigenomic abnormalities in skin cancer and how to modulate DNA damage responses or epigenetic changes to inhibit skin cancer
  • Study UV-induced DNA damage responses, UV-mediated skin diseases (skin cancer and lupus), skin disease epigenetics, exosomes, and 3D skin models
  • Elucidate molecular mechanisms by which cells sense UV-induced DNA lesions (CPD and 6-4PP) and activate biological processes
  • Dissect the molecular mechanisms by which genetic/epigenetic changes occur during cancer evolution, caffeine treatment, and UV-induced DNA damage and lupus development
  • Document research data, identify technical problems, and propose solutions
  • Mentor junior lab members, providing technical and intellectual guidance and troubleshooting
  • Develop approaches and protocols while maintaining quality and cost effectiveness
  • Train junior scientists in specific, standardized techniques and instrumentation
  • Contribute to the preparation of oral/poster presentations, manuscripts, and grant applications

Requirements

  • Extensive, direct, hands-on experience with molecular and cellular assays
  • Experience with mouse studies
  • Next-generation sequencing data analysis
  • Bioinformatics and statistical analysis
  • Scientific writing
  • Presenting data to various groups
  • Highly motivated with a track record of productive research (publication/presentations)
  • Ability to discuss with PI and collaborators, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines

Qualifications

  • PhD in Biological Sciences or relevant field
