Perform and score polysomnographic tests and apply recording equipment to evaluate various sleep disorders and physiological events for adult and pediatric patients.
Responsibilities
- Review existing information in patient record and examine orders and protocols for study
- Explain test procedures to patients and recognize chief sleep/wake complaints
- Calibrate and adjust equipment to ensure proper working condition
- Measure and apply appropriate EEG, EKG, EMG, and EOG monitoring electrodes
- Apply and securely attach recording transducers, thermocouples, oximetry probes, and CO2 monitors
- Monitor the PSG, note and correct equipment malfunctions, and monitor/change patient's body position
- End PSG, wake patient, and carefully remove recording equipment
- Score the polysomnogram and generate a report summarizing sleep/wake data and physiological events
- Independently perform specialty studies, including esophageal pressure monitoring, infant/pediatric polysomnography, and ambulatory monitoring
- Administer oxygen, continuous and BI-level positive airway pressure in accordance with established protocols
Requirements
- High School graduation with basic course work or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Registration as a Polysomnographic Technologist by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT)
- BLS Certification
Qualifications
- High School graduation with basic course work or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Nice to Have
- Associate's Degree or satisfactory completion of coursework in the physiological and biological sciences
