About This Role

Independently perform and evaluate routine and specialized overnight polysomnograms (PSG's) for patient safety. Score PSGs according to established guidelines and provide technical expertise to Polysomnography Technicians. This role involves travel to various locations within Ann Arbor and Brighton.

Responsibilities

  • Review existing information in patient records and examine orders and protocols for studies
  • Explain test procedures to patients and recognize chief sleep/wake complaints
  • Calibrate and adjust equipment to ensure proper working condition
  • Measure and apply appropriate EEG electrodes using the International 10-20 system
  • Apply appropriate EKG, EMG, EOG monitoring electrodes and recording transducers
  • Perform physiological calibrations to verify proper functioning of equipment
  • Monitor and note equipment malfunctions during PSG, adjusting patient position as needed
  • End the PSG, wake the patient, and carefully remove recording equipment
  • Score the polysomnogram and generate a report summarizing sleep/wake data and physiological events
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to patient's medical problems and physiological events
  • Safely lift and move patients without harm and ensure their safety and welfare
  • Comply with Universal Infection Control procedures and properly disinfect/sterilize equipment
  • Administer oxygen, continuous and BI-level positive airway pressure in accordance with protocols
  • Perform special procedures including esophageal pressure monitoring, infant/pediatric polysomnography, ambulatory and portable polysomnography

Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Board certification by BRPT
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider verification from American Heart Association

Qualifications

  • High school diploma

  • Basic knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the human body
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Previous college course work in general sciences
