About This Role

This position works as a Police Officer 2 for Augusta University, promoting a safe atmosphere through traditional and progressive law enforcement practices and strong community partnership. Responsibilities include preparing reports, effecting arrests, conducting investigations, and patrolling designated university areas.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare required documents and reports
  • Effect arrests and restrain persons consistent with the tenants of probable cause and reasonable suspicion
  • Conduct investigations, collect and identify evidence, question principals and witnesses, testify in court
  • Conduct safety escorts
  • Assist police dispatcher as necessary
  • Patrol a designated area of the University projecting a community-oriented policing mindset, preserve law and order, be alert for and control commission of crimes, answer calls to include, but not limited to trespassing, thefts, fire and burglar alarms, traffic accidents, and enforce traffic regulations

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Must possess good moral and ethical character
  • Must be a certified police officer through Georgia P.O.S.T.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Knowledge and skill in the use of firearms
  • Knowledge of standard police practices and techniques
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases
  • Ability to maintain complex records
  • Perform well under stress in a calm, efficient manner
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement and make responsible decisions especially decisions regarding use of force
  • Valid driver's license

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED from a recognized State or Federal accredited organization

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge of Federal Communication's Rules and Regulations
