Physician Assistant, Inpatient Orthopedics

About This Role

This Physician Assistant role supports the Inpatient Orthopedics team at Newton-Wellesley Hospital, providing direct patient care, conducting evaluations, and participating in discharge planning. The role involves working autonomously at the top of licensure with mentorship from experienced advanced practice providers.

Responsibilities

• Present and discuss patient evaluations with Attending Surgeons to develop appropriate treatment plans
• Order diagnostic tests and interpret results
• Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including wound care, tube/drain management, suturing, splint/brace/cast application, and medication administration
• Conduct daily patient rounds
• Participate in discharge planning
• Educate and counsel patients and families
• Orient medical students, physician assistant students, and surgical residents to the clinical environment
• Participate in quality improvement and quality assurance initiatives
• Provide direct care, counseling, and teaching to a designated patient population
• Perform complete histories and physical examinations

Requirements

• Master's Degree as a Physician Assistant
• State Physician Assistant License
• 2 years of experience as a PA
• Previous PA experience in orthopedics

Qualifications

• Master's Degree Physician Assistant required
• 2 years of experience as a PA required; previous PA experience in orthopedics required
