Pharmacy Technician

About This Role

This Pharmacy Technician position will support the daily workflow of the pharmacy at Kaiser Permanente in Spokane, ensuring timely and appropriate distribution of drug therapy in compliance with state and federal laws and Kaiser Permanente policies and procedures. This role specifically covers unfilled shifts, including vacations and unplanned leave, across all four Kaiser locations in Spokane.

Responsibilities

• Perform functions that support the daily workflow of the pharmacy, including typing new prescriptions, processing refill prescriptions, and entering prescription data into the computer
• Count and pour medications from stock bottles, enter chronic condition information, prepackage and label medications, stock shelves, and file prescriptions
• Perform inventory functions and release refill medications and OTC products to patients
• Handle non-professional phone calls, including refill requests from patients and refill authorizations from prescribers
• Call prescribers to obtain refill authorization and triage phone calls to the appropriate person
• Ensure timely and appropriate distribution of drug therapy by reading, interpreting, and accurately filling prescription orders with correct medication and quantities
• Ensure patient safety and provide excellent customer service by identifying opportunities to prevent unusual occurrences, performing safety checks, and resolving/reporting incidents
• Demonstrate dedication to evidence-based medicine by staying current on clinical initiatives and identifying issues for pharmacists' attention
• Administer different medication formularies by following Kaiser Permanente policies, procedures, and protocols
• Maintain and utilize current knowledge of basic drug information and medical terminology when performing duties

Requirements

• Working knowledge and competency with cashiering processes and procedures
• Adherence to Kaiser Permanente Cash Security and Compliance standards
