Pharmacy Technician

About This Role

As a Pharmacy Technician, you will assist pharmacists in preparing and dispensing medications, including mixing IV solutions using aseptic technique. You will also manage medication records, compute charges, and maintain inventory.

Responsibilities

• Assist Pharmacist to prepare and dispense medication, including additives for IV and irrigating solutions
• Mix IV additive solutions using aseptic technique with a laminar air flow hood
• Mix pharmaceutical preparations and fill bottles with prescribed tablets and capsules
• Prepare labels for bottles and unit of use dosage when possible
• Process records of medication and equipment dispensed, compute charges, and enter data in computer
• Prepare intravenous (IV) packs and generate required reports
• Deliver IVS to proper locations and restock shelves, rotating stock
• Maintain i.v. refrigerator temperature log and properly dispose of non-recyclable solutions
• Receive and store incoming supplies, count stock, and enter data in computer to maintain inventory records
• Fill requisitions from Nursing floors in a timely fashion and return medications to stock

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Read, write and speak fluent English
• Ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal) with clinical staff

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a hospital pharmacy setting preferred

Nice to Have

• Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a hospital pharmacy setting
• Basic understanding of the role of and use of a computer in the processing of prescription orders with minimum word processing skills
