Pharmacy Technician I

About This Role

This Pharmacy Technician I role involves performing clerical and technical duties under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist. The position maintains pharmacy services in accordance with departmental standards and state regulations, ensuring effective delivery of pharmacy services.

Responsibilities

• Perform general clerical duties including cash register operation, cash handling, member eligibility verification, bookkeeping, filing and general supply maintenance
• Perform technical duties under Pharmacist supervision, including entering prescription and allergy data, retrieving medication, counting, packaging, and labeling medication
• Retrieve refill request information from phone and automated systems
• Assist with inventory control, purchasing, pharmaceutical returns, return-to-stock, shelf cleanliness, product rotation and maintenance
• Serve members in a friendly, courteous and expedient manner to promote satisfaction and retention
• Work with medical records and nursing staff to collect and disseminate prescription related information
• Orient and instruct new pharmacy personnel regarding department policies and procedures
• Participate in patient education programs as appropriate
• May have specific clinical pharmacy service responsibilities such as patient enrollment, telecommunication, written patient communication, and data collection

Requirements

• Ability to deal pleasantly and effectively with medical staff and patients
• Knowledge of basic cash register operations and cash control systems
• Demonstrated ability to read and interpret written prescriptions
• Ability to work in a repetitive environment

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.

Nice to Have

• One (1) year of experience as a pharmacy technician in a hospital or retail setting
• One (1) year of experience as a Pharmacy Assistant in a Kaiser Permanente Pharmacy
