Pharmacy Technician

About This Role

This role supports the pharmacy team in delivering operational and service excellence, assisting patients with prescription fulfillment and compassionate care. Technicians are integral to ensuring smooth pharmacy operations, promptly and accurately filling prescriptions, and adhering to strict safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Support the pharmacy team in delivering operational and service excellence within the store
• Assist patients and customers as the first point of contact to deliver an exceptional experience
• Ensure pharmacy operations run smoothly, and prescriptions are filled promptly, safely, and accurately
• Provide caring service that exceeds patient expectations through consistent application of SOPs and best practices
• Follow all company SOPs at each workstation to help Pharmacists manage and improve patient health
• Complete basic inventory activities as directed by pharmacy leadership, such as putting away medication deliveries and completing cycle counts
• Contribute to a high-performing team, embrace a growth mindset, and be receptive to feedback
• Comply with all relevant federal, state, and local laws, regulations, professional standards, and ethical principles
• Deliver additional patient healthcare services (e.g., immunizations, point-of-care testing) where allowable by law and supported by training

Requirements

• Must comply with any state board of pharmacy requirements or laws governing the practice of pharmacy
• If no state minimum age, must be at least 16 years of age
• If no state minimum education, must have high school diploma/equivalent or be actively enrolled
• Regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends
• Ability to complete required training within designated timeframe
• Ability to concentrate on a task over a period of time
• Ability to pivot quickly from one task to another to meet patient and business needs
• Ability to confirm prescription information and label accuracy, ensuring patient safety
• Actively look for ways to help people and do so in a friendly manner
• Notice and understand patients’ reactions, and respond appropriately
• Ability to use and understand verbal and written communication to interact with patients and colleagues
• Ability to use math to solve problems (e.g., determining tablets to dispense, day’s supply)
• Ability to identify challenging patient/colleague interactions and choose best course of action
• Ability to be mobile and remain upright for extended periods of time
• Ability to lift, scan, and bag items
• Ability to reach overhead; stretch or reach out with the body, arms, and/or legs to grasp items
• Ability to move fingers repetitively; picking, pinching, typing
• Ability to extend hand(s) and arm(s) multiple directions to place, move, or lift items
• Ability to stoop to a considerable degree, requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles
• Close visual acuity to perform activities such as transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, reading, visual inspection involving small parts
• Ability to occasionally lift up to 20 lbs; frequently lift up to 10 lbs; consistently lift a negligible amount of force to move objects
• Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of spoken word where detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed accurately
• Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, or actively enrolled in high school or high school equivalency program (if board of pharmacy does not mandate)

Nice to Have

• 1-3 years previous experience as a Pharmacy Technician
• Previous experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting
• Ability to work in the home store, and across the market in other locations, to meet business needs
