This Pharmacy Technician role supports the pharmacy team in a CVS Health retail location, focusing on operational and service excellence. The technician ensures prompt, safe, and accurate prescription fulfillment while delivering compassionate patient care and adhering to standard operating procedures.
Responsibilities
- Follow all company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) at each workstation to help Pharmacists manage and improve patient health.
- Execute pharmacy workflow procedures at each workstation (production, pick-up, drive-thru, drop-off) for safe and accurate prescription fulfillment.
- Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and genuine care, creating personalized moments at pick-up, drive-thru, and over the phone.
- Offer immunizations and other services at the register and over the phone to keep patients healthy.
- Solve or escalate patient problems with compassionate care.
- Complete basic inventory activities, as permitted by law, and as directed by the pharmacy leadership team (e.g., putting away medication deliveries, cycle counts, returns-to-stocks).
- Embrace a growth mindset, be receptive to feedback, and actively seek opportunities to expand clinical and technical knowledge.
- Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs, contributing to a safe, inclusive, and engaging team dynamic.
- Travel to other stores in the market to work shifts as needed by the business.
- Comply with all relevant federal, state, and local laws, regulations, professional standards, and ethical principles, as well as CVS policies and procedures to ensure patient safety, compliance, and privacy.
- Deliver additional patient healthcare services (e.g., immunizations, point-of-care testing, staffing offsite clinics) where allowable by law and supported by required training and certification.
- Complete additional licensure and training requirements to obtain Technician Immunizer status to support preparing and administering vaccines, if permissible.
- Educate patients about the importance of vaccines and refer patients to the Pharmacist-on-duty for vaccination questions, if permissible.
- Monitor for and respond to adverse reactions, reporting events per public health requirements, if permissible.
- Review and collect patient information, tracking and documenting for each applicable patient, if permissible.
- Monitor and manage vaccine supplies, if permissible.
Requirements
- Must comply with any state board of pharmacy requirements or laws governing the practice of pharmacy, including age, education, and licensure/certification.
- If state board of pharmacy does not mandate age, must be at least 16 years of age.
- If state board of pharmacy does not mandate education, must have a high school diploma or equivalent, or be actively enrolled in high school or high school equivalency program.
- Ability to complete required training within designated timeframe.
- Attention and Focus: ability to concentrate, pivot between tasks, and confirm prescription information accuracy.
- Customer Service and Team Orientation: actively help people, understand patients' reactions, and respond appropriately.
- Communication Skills: use and understand verbal and written communication, utilize active listening.
- Mathematical Reasoning: ability to use math to solve problems like determining tablet quantities, day's supply.
- Problem Resolution: identifying challenging interactions and choosing best course of action.
- Physical Demands: mobile and upright for extended periods, lift, scan, bag items, reach overhead, move fingers repetitively, extend hands/arms, control precision, stoop, close visual acuity, lift up to 20 lbs occasionally, express/exchange ideas by spoken word, receive detailed information through oral communication.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent, or actively enrolled in high school or high school equivalency program
- Entry level with a preference for 1-3 years previous experience as a Pharmacy Technician or in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting.
