This role supports the pharmacy team in a retail setting, ensuring operational and service excellence. Pharmacy Technicians act as the first point of contact for patients, assisting with prompt, safe, and accurate prescription fulfillment while delivering compassionate service.
Responsibilities
- Support the pharmacy team in delivering operational and service excellence
- Assist patients and customers to deliver an exceptional experience
- Ensure pharmacy operations run smoothly, including safe and accurate prescription fulfillment
- Operate as part of the pharmacy team through consistent application of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), best practices, and effective communication
- Contribute to a safe and inclusive culture, demonstrating genuine care in all interactions
- Complete a rigorous company training program and satisfy all registration, licensing, and certification requirements according to State's Board of Pharmacy guidelines
- Follow pharmacy workflow procedures at each workstation (production, pick-up, drive-thru, drop-off) for safe and accurate prescription fulfillment
- Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and genuine care, offering immunizations and other services, and solving or escalating patient problems
- Complete basic inventory activities, as permitted by law, and as directed by the pharmacy leadership team
- Contribute to a high-performing team, embracing a growth mindset, and actively seeking opportunities to expand clinical and technical knowledge
- Remain flexible for both scheduling and business needs, contributing to a safe, inclusive, and engaging team dynamic, including voluntarily traveling to other stores
- Understand and comply with all relevant federal, state, and local laws, regulations, professional standards, ethical principles, and CVS policies and procedures
- Deliver additional patient health care services (e.g., immunizations, point-of-care testing, staffing offsite clinics), where allowable by law and supported by required training and certification
- Complete additional licensure and training requirements to obtain Technician Immunizer status to support preparing and administering vaccines, where permissible
- Educate patients about the importance of vaccines and refer patients to the Pharmacist-on-duty for vaccination questions, where permissible
- Monitor for, and respond to, adverse reactions and reporting events per public health requirements, where permissible
- Review and collect patient information, tracking and documenting for each applicable patient, where permissible
- Monitor and manage vaccine supplies, where permissible
Requirements
- Comply with any state board of pharmacy requirements or laws governing the practice of pharmacy (age, education, licensure/certification)
- If state board of pharmacy does not address a minimum age, must be at least 16 years of age
- Regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends
- Ability to complete required training within designated timeframe
- Attention and Focus: ability to concentrate and pivot quickly, confirm prescription information and label accuracy
- Customer Service and Team Orientation: actively look for ways to help people, notice and understand patients’ reactions
- Communication Skills: use and understand verbal and written communication, utilize active listening
- Mathematical Reasoning: ability to use math to solve problems (e.g., determining tablets, day's supply)
- Problem Resolution: identifying challenging interactions and choosing best course of action
- Physical Demands: mobile and upright for extended periods, lift, scan, bag items, reach overhead, move fingers repetitively, extend hands/arms, stoop, close visual acuity, lift up to 20 lbs occasionally
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent, or actively enrolled in high school or high school equivalency program if state board of pharmacy does not address or mandate a minimum educational requirement
Nice to Have
- 1-3 years previous experience as a Pharmacy Technician
- Previous experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting
- Ability to work in the home store, and across the market in other locations, to meet business needs
