About This Role

This role involves performing patient care activities in an adult acute care setting, focusing on preparing and distributing pharmaceuticals and assisting pharmacists. The position requires a diverse skillset to support various hospital areas and medical professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and package non-sterile compounded pharmaceuticals
  • Prepare sterile products, injections and IV chemotherapy
  • Fill automated dispensing cabinets on nursing units
  • Correctly distribute and account for controlled substances usage
  • Deliver medications to nursing units including surgical rooms
  • Stock medication shelves, manage inventory dating, return excess stock to inventory, properly dispose expired medications or return to manufacturer
  • Prepare and deliver investigational drugs per research protocols
  • Respond and triage telephone and electronic message inquiries
  • Assist the Pharmacist with auditing controlled substance utilization
  • Complete restocking and dispensing activities using pharmacy automation

Requirements

  • Ability to perform a wide range of physical activity: lifting, pulling, bending, manual dexterity movements
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions, prioritize with accuracy and dependability
  • Fluency in reading, writing and speaking English
  • Current licensure that meets the State of Michigan Pharmacy Technician licensing requirements
  • Proficient communication, computer and basic mathematic skills

Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One or more years of relevant pharmacy experience highly desirable for senior level, otherwise entry level.

Nice to Have

  • At least one year of technician experience or completion of a Pharmacy Technician training program
  • Basic algebra including performing pharmacy calculations
