Pharmacy Technician Adult Hospitals

About This Role

Join a diverse team of Pharmacy Technicians in adult acute care settings, performing patient care activities such as preparing medications, managing inventory, and assisting pharmacists. This role supports Michigan Medicine's mission of excellence in patient care, education, and research.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and package non-sterile compounded pharmaceuticals
• Prepare sterile products, injections, and IV chemotherapy
• Fill automated dispensing cabinets on nursing units
• Correctly distribute and account for controlled substances usage
• Deliver medications to nursing units including surgical rooms
• Stock medication shelves, manage inventory dating, and dispose of expired medications
• Prepare and deliver investigational drugs per research protocols
• Respond and triage telephone and electronic message inquiries
• Assist the Pharmacist with auditing controlled substance utilization
• Complete restocking and dispensing activities using pharmacy automation
• Receive orders and prepare and package medications for outside clinics
• Build various medication kits, providing support to many different professions

Requirements

• Ability to perform a wide range of physical activity: lifting, pulling, bending, manual dexterity movements
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions
• Ability to prioritize with accuracy and dependability
• Fluency in reading, writing and speaking English
• Current licensure that meets the State of Michigan Pharmacy Technician licensing requirements
• Proficient communication, computer and basic mathematic skills

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• At least one year of technician experience or completion of a Pharmacy Technician training program is highly desirable.

• One year of technician experience

• Basic algebra including performing pharmacy calculations
