Patient Transport Driver

About This Role

The Patient Transport Driver is responsible for safely transporting patients with emotional or psychiatric disorders, maintaining the therapeutic milieu, and ensuring patient well-being while adhering to all traffic laws and safety regulations. This role involves routine vehicle checks and communication with medical staff and families.

Responsibilities

• Provide transportation services to patients with emotional or psychiatric disorders
• Support the therapeutic milieu and ensure the safety and well-being of patients
• Practice safe driving and obey all traffic laws
• Provide routine vehicle checks prior to use
• Maintain a safe and professional standard for patient care in accordance with regulations and policies
• Effectively apply supportive behavior when assisting in the control of patients
• Oversee patient activities and ensure safety by not leaving patients unattended
• Communicate and document patient observation and data effectively
• Communicate with the Transportation Coordinator to establish a schedule for picking up and dropping off patients
• Maintain the on-call phone to communicate with nursing and admission staff

Requirements

• Ability to read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions
• Ability to work well with diverse populations
• Good physical and mental health
• Ability to work under close supervision
• Successfully complete an Oceans approved behavioral health de-escalation program

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent preferred
• At least 6 months experience working with psychiatric patients in an inpatient setting preferred

Nice to Have

• High school graduate or equivalent
• 6 months experience working with psychiatric patients in an inpatient setting
