Provide direct patient care duties, observation, and monitoring, as well as assisting with admissions, discharges, and transfers within a healthcare setting. This role supports nursing staff by performing various patient care tasks and clerical duties.
Responsibilities
- Perform patient care duties including observation and monitoring
- Assist with patient admissions, discharges, and transfers
- Obtain and record vital signs, reporting abnormal values to the Registered Nurse
- Collect various specimens including urine and sputum
- Perform point of care testing, maintaining and calibrating equipment
- Provide assistance with patient ADLs (Activities of Daily Living) such as toileting, feeding, and dressing
- Perform intermittent and clean urinary catheterizations and discontinue IVs
- Provide skin care and assist with complex dressing changes
- Connect oxygen delivery devices and assist with trach and endotracheal tube care
- Perform clerical duties including printing documents, making wristbands, and answering telephones
- Maintain orderliness of patient bays and stock supplies and equipment in patient care areas
- Assist with patient transport as needed
- Report to the charge nurse at the beginning and end of each shift and when leaving assigned areas
Requirements
- Graduation from high school or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 1-year recent experience in an unlicensed assistive role in a patient care setting OR minimum 2 years experience in an unlicensed assistive role in a patient care setting in a nursing home or other health care environment
Nice to Have
- Junior status in an accredited BSN program
- 2nd year in accredited ADN program
- Bachelors Degree in Applied Medical Science
- Minimum 1-year recent experience in an unlicensed assistive role in a patient care setting, such as nurse aide in a hospital setting
- Minimum 2 years experience in an unlicensed assistive role in a patient care setting in a nursing home or other health care environment
- Attended and passed CNA course or CNA state certification
- Recent experience in an acute care inpatient setting
- Basic computer skills
- Demonstrated communication skills, both written and verbal
