About This Role

Provide direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, performing specialized technical procedures and assisting with diagnostic testing. This role also involves recommending changes to patient care activities to improve service quality.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain vital signs, temperature, height/length, weight, oxygen saturation, and pain scores, reporting abnormal values to the Registered Nurse
  • Observe, monitor, and report the overt physical condition of assigned patient(s)
  • Collect various specimens including blood, urine, stool, sputum, and ensure proper transport to laboratories
  • Assist patients with routine personal hygiene, including baths, oral care, and skin care
  • Provide patient nourishment by passing and collecting trays, offering snacks/beverages, and assisting with ordering meals
  • Perform tube feedings at the direction of the Registered Nurse after placement verification
  • Perform intermittent sterile and clean urinary catheterizations, connect/drain/disconnect catheters, and discontinue them when appropriate
  • Cleanse and redress non-sterile wounds, perform simple sterile dressing changes, and assist Registered Nurses with complex ones
  • Assist with tracheostomy care on stable tracheotomies and perform endotracheal/tracheostomy tube suctioning after RN assessment
  • Perform 12-lead ECGs and assist with application and maintenance of restraints
  • Stock supplies and equipment in patient care spaces and maintain orderliness of patient rooms and unit

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent
  • Ability to perform a wide range of physical activities including moving, transporting, and positioning patients and equipment

Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent

Nice to Have

  • Completion of a Certified Nurse Aide or Certified Medical Assistant program
  • Basic computer skills
  • Course work in an Allied Health field
  • Ability to read and write
  • 6 months experience in skilled long-term facility/acute care hospital OR Enrolled in a nursing program and have completed fundamentals of nursing course OR 1 year experience short-term care facility (i.e. rehab) OR Completion of a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) program
