About This Role

This role involves providing direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, including vital sign monitoring, specimen collection, assisting with ADLs, and maintaining specialized clinical equipment. The position contributes to improving patient care services and supports Michigan Medicine's mission of healthcare excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain vital signs, temperature, height/length, weight, oxygen saturation, and pain scores, reporting abnormal values to RN
  • Respond to monitor alarms and ensure alarms are activated after activities
  • Measure and record patient intake and output
  • Perform point of care testing and maintain equipment and supplies
  • Collect various specimens, including blood, urine, stool, and swabs
  • Discontinue peripheral IVs and remove IV dressings
  • Assist patients with routine personal hygiene, including baths and oral care
  • Perform tube feedings at the direction of the RN after initial placement verification
  • Perform intermittent sterile and clean urinary catheterizations, connect/drain/disconnect catheters
  • Cleanse and redress non-sterile wounds and perform simple sterile dressing changes
  • Assist with tracheostomy care on stable tracheotomies and perform endotracheal/tracheostomy tube suctioning
  • Measure and obtain TED hose, apply Sequential Compression Devices and perform post-mortem care
  • Stock supplies and equipment in patient care spaces and set up patient rooms

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Nice to Have

  • Completion of a Certified Nurse Aide or Certified Medical Assistant program
  • Basic computer skills
  • Coursework in an Allied Health field
  • Ability to read and write
  • Progressive knowledge in methods, procedures, materials, and equipment of the designated area
  • Reasonable knowledge of methods, materials and equipment used in laboratory and/or patient care activities
