Patient Care Technician - PCT

About This Role

This role involves providing safe and effective dialysis therapy to patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse, ensuring compliance with regulations and organizational policies. Responsibilities include operating hemodialysis machines, monitoring patient response, and assisting in maintaining a clean and safe environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist in providing patient-specific detailed education regarding adequacy measures and disease process/access
• Welcome assigned patients and inquire about their wellbeing
• Evaluate vascular access for patency, perform cannulation, and administer heparin as delegated
• Obtain necessary pre and post-treatment vital signs and weight
• Initiate dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders
• Evaluate intradialytic problems and provide intervention as prescribed or directed
• Monitor patients’ response to dialysis therapy
• Discontinue dialysis treatment according to established procedures and evaluate patient prior to venous access termination
• Perform and record Pre and Post dialysis evaluation, weight, and vital signs
• Ensure appropriate safety alarms are enabled and record accurate information for vital signs and treatment parameters

Requirements

• High School diploma or G.E.D. required
• Meet CMS-approved state and/or national certification requirements within required timeline
• All appropriate state licensure, education, and training (if any) required

Qualifications

• High School diploma or G.E.D.
• Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or a related facility preferred.
