About This Role

This Patient Care Technician role involves providing direct patient care and technical support under the supervision of a Registered Nurse at a leading academic health system. Responsibilities include monitoring specialized clinical equipment, performing delegated clinical procedures, and assisting with patient admissions and discharges.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care under supervision of a Registered Nurse
  • Obtain hemodynamic measurements and vital signs; report abnormal values to RN
  • Set up and monitor specialized clinical equipment
  • Perform delegated clinical or laboratory procedures, including chemstrips and intermittent straight cath
  • Assist with admitting and discharge procedures
  • Collect various specimens, including blood, urine, stool, and sputum
  • Assist patients with routine personal hygiene, including baths and oral care
  • Perform tube feedings at the direction of the RN
  • Perform intermittent sterile urinary catheterizations and remove/empty Foley catheters
  • Cleanse and redress non-sterile wounds; assist RN with complex dressing changes
  • Assist with tracheostomy care and endotracheal/tracheostomy tube suctioning

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent
  • Ability to perform a wide range of physical activities including moving, transporting, and positioning patients and equipment

Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent
  • Entry level with options for 6 months experience in skilled long-term facility/acute care hospital, enrollment in a nursing program with completed fundamentals, 1 year experience in short-term care, or completion of a CNA program

Nice to Have

  • Completion of a Certified Nurse Aide or Certified Medical Assistant program
  • Basic computer skills
  • Course work in an Allied Health field
  • 6 months experience in skilled long-term facility/acute care hospital
  • Enrolled in a nursing program having completed fundamentals of nursing course
  • 1 year experience in short-term care facility (i.e. rehab)
  • Completion of a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) program
