About This Role

Provide direct patient care and technical support under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, including delegated procedures, equipment maintenance, and administrative tasks to improve the quality of patient care services.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain vital signs, temperature, height/length, weight, oxygen saturation and pain scores, reporting abnormal values to RN
  • Respond to monitor alarms and observe/monitor the physical condition of assigned patients
  • Measure and record intake and output
  • Assist physician/provider during diagnostic procedures and assist in specimen collection
  • Collect blood specimens and other specimens (urine, stool, sputum, swabs), performing point of care testing
  • Assist patients with routine personal hygiene, including baths, oral care, and skin care
  • Provide toileting/bedpan/urinal; remove/empty foley catheters; weigh diapers
  • Accompany, escort, ambulate, move, turn, dangle, lift, transport and attend/hold/position patients
  • Provide patient nourishment by passing/collecting trays, snacks/beverages, and assisting with feeding
  • Perform tube feedings at the direction of the RN after placement establishment
  • Perform intermittent sterile and clean urinary catheterizations; connect, drain, and disconnect urinary catheters
  • Administer cleansing enemas without medication; apply external Fecal Incontinence Device bags
  • Cleanse and redress non-sterile wounds; perform simple sterile dressing changes; assist RN with complex dressing changes
  • Assist with tracheostomy care on stable tracheotomies, including cleaning, redressing, and tape/tie changes
  • Measure and record chest tube drainage; set-up Pleurevac; check Pleurevac water levels and notify RN prn
  • Perform routine nasal and/or oral suctioning
  • Perform post-mortem care and transport deceased patients to the morgue/pathology
  • Respond to call lights and alarms; answer unit telephone and relay messages prn
  • Stock supplies and equipment in patient care spaces; set up patient rooms for admission or procedure
  • Perform 12-lead ECG

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent
  • Ability to perform a wide range of physical activities including moving, transporting, and positioning patients and equipment

Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent
  • Entry level with preference for 6 months experience in skilled long-term facility/acute care hospital OR enrolled in a nursing program with fundamentals completed OR 1 year experience short-term care facility OR completion of a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) program

Nice to Have

  • Completion of a Certified Nurse Aide or Certified Medical Assistant program
  • Basic computer skills
  • Course work in an Allied Health field
  • Ability to read and write
  • 6 months experience in skilled long-term facility/acute care hospital
  • Enrolled in a nursing program and have completed fundamentals of nursing course
  • 1 year experience short-term care facility (i.e. rehab)
  • Completion of a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) program
