This role involves providing direct patient care by monitoring vital signs, assisting with daily living activities, performing specimen collection, and maintaining the patient environment. The position supports patient well-being and ensures a safe, clean care setting.
Responsibilities
- Obtain and record vital signs, oxygen saturation, and pain scores, reporting abnormal values to the Registered Nurse (RN)
- Observe, monitor, and report the physical condition of assigned patients
- Measure and record patient intake and output
- Collect various specimens including blood, urine, stool, and sputum, performing point-of-care testing
- Assist patients with personal hygiene, including baths, oral care, and skin care
- Provide patient nourishment, assisting with meals and feeding
- Perform tube feedings at the direction of the RN after placement establishment
- Perform intermittent and clean urinary catheterizations and discontinue urinary catheters
- Administer cleansing enemas that do not contain medication
- Cleanse and redress non-sterile wounds; assist with tracheostomy care and endotracheal/tracheostomy tube suctioning
- Perform post-mortem care and transport deceased patients to the morgue/pathology
- Stock supplies and equipment in patient care spaces and maintain orderliness of the patient room and unit
Requirements
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent
- Ability to read and write
- One of the following: 6 months experience in skilled long-term facility/acute care hospital, enrolled in a nursing program and completed fundamentals of nursing course, 1 year experience short-term care facility (i.e. rehab), or completion of a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) program
- Ability to perform a wide range of physical activities including moving, transporting, and positioning patients and equipment
Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent
- Must have 6 months experience in a skilled long-term facility/acute care hospital OR completed fundamentals of nursing course OR 1 year experience short-term care facility OR completed a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) program
Nice to Have
- Completion of a Certified Nurse Aide or Certified Medical Assistant program
- Basic computer skills
- Course work in an Allied Health field
