About This Role

This role provides essential dialysis therapy for patients as part of a healthcare team, under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse. The technician will be responsible for operating hemodialysis machines and maintaining a safe, clean environment.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate vascular access for patency and perform cannulation
  • Administer heparin as delegated or allowed by state law
  • Obtain pre and post-treatment vital signs and weight
  • Initiate dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders
  • Evaluate intradialytic problems and provide intervention as prescribed
  • Monitor patients’ response to dialysis therapy
  • Perform all functions necessary for the discontinuation of treatment and evaluate patient prior to discharge
  • Calculate and enter individual patients’ dialysis machine programming for Ultrafiltration (UF) goal, treatment time, and UF modeling
  • Record accurate and timely information regarding vital signs and treatment parameters
  • Report any significant information or change in patient condition directly to the registered nurse or supervisor
  • Perform and document any intervention for unusual patient status and document patients' response to intervention
  • Obtain all prescribed laboratory testing and prepare specimens for collection
  • Clean and disinfect dialysis machine surface, chair, equipment, and surrounding area between treatments

Requirements

  • High School diploma or G.E.D.
  • Meet CMS-approved state and/or national certification requirements
  • Successful completion of the organization dialysis training program
  • Successful completion of CPR certification

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or G.E.D.
  • Entry-level position. Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or related facility preferred.

Nice to Have

  • Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or a related facility

Certifications

CPR certification (Required) Center for Medicaid/Medicare Services (CMS)-approved state and/or national certification (Required)
