Patient Care Technician

About This Role

Functions as part of a dialysis health care team, providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients under direct supervision of a licensed nurse. Responsibilities include setting up and operating hemodialysis machines, assisting in maintaining a safe and clean working environment, and supporting quality enhancement programs.

Responsibilities

• Assist other healthcare members in providing patient specific detailed education regarding adequacy measures and disease process/access
• Welcome assigned patients and inquire about their wellbeing
• Evaluate vascular access for patency, perform cannulation, and administer heparin as delegated
• Obtain necessary pre and post treatment vital signs and weight
• Initiate dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders including blood flow and dialysate flow
• Evaluate intradialytic problems and provide intervention as prescribed or directed
• Monitor patients’ response to dialysis therapy
• Perform all relevant functions necessary for the discontinuation of treatment and obtain Hemostasis
• Perform and record Pre and Post dialysis evaluation, weight, and vital signs
• Document accurate and timely information regarding vital signs and treatment parameters

Requirements

• High School diploma or G.E.D.
• Meet CMS-approved state and/or national certification requirements
• All appropriate state licensure, education, and training (if any)

Qualifications

• High School diploma or G.E.D. required.
• Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or a related facility preferred.
