About This Role

Instruct Nurse Assistant students in clinical, skills lab, and human simulation lab environments in accordance with course descriptions and outlines. This role involves evaluating student progress, advising on educational matters, and participating in activities that promote student equity and success.

Responsibilities

  • Provide effective clinical instruction consistent with approved Nurse Assistant curriculum at MJC and clinical sites
  • Assist in the development of lesson plans and student evaluation methods
  • Ensure students meet requirements of each clinical training site agreement
  • Attend clinical training site orientations and serve as liaison between clinical site and Nurse Assistant Program Director
  • Inform students of clinical requirements, evaluation procedures, and attendance requirements
  • Prepare and grade class assignments and examinations, informing students of academic progress
  • Maintain attendance, scholastic, and other records, submitting them according to policies and deadlines
  • Develop, implement, and assess student-learning outcomes for clinical and use results for improvement
  • Engage in data inquiry and self-assessment to develop strategies for student success, persistence, and equity
  • Participate in professional development activities to fulfill mandatory FLEX requirements

Requirements

  • Licensed Vocational Nurse or Registered Nurse
  • Two years of nursing experience (at least one year in direct patient care for chronically ill or elderly patients in acute care hospital, skilled nursing facility, intermediate care facility, home care, hospice care, or other long-term care setting)
  • Within six (6) months of employment, obtain a minimum of twenty-four (24) hours of continuing education courses in planning, implementing and evaluating educational programs in nursing (approved by the Board of Registered Nursing or accredited educational institutions)

Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of full-time experience as a licensed nurse, at least one (1) year of which must be in the provision of direct patient care in a nursing facility.

Nice to Have

  • Education and/or experience in teaching in Nurse Assistant at the community college level
  • Current knowledge of Nurse Assistant practice
  • Current understanding of assessment processes for improving student success at the clinical level
  • Competent in new pedagogies for Nurse Assistant clinical practices
  • Recent experience working with African American/Black, Hispanic, Native American, and other minoritized students in the classroom
  • Willingness to examine and remediate instructional, relational, and clinical practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students
  • Experience and skill with addressing issues of equity in the clinical setting
  • Experience and expertise in culturally responsive teaching in Nurse Assistant
  • Demonstrated ability to address equity gaps within coursework and the clinical
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Hispanic-Serving designation
