About This Role

Teach Construction Surveying courses in the Construction Management program at Montgomery College, focusing on inspiring and educating students through hands-on experience and professional commitment. Responsibilities include curriculum adherence, equipment maintenance, and timely student feedback.

Responsibilities

  • Teach CMGT250, Construction Surveying, based on enrollment needs
  • Maintain and ensure proper use of surveying equipment during lab sessions
  • Report any equipment maintenance or replacement needs to the program coordinator
  • Adhere to the college curriculum and course outcomes
  • Develop a course syllabus consistent with college guidelines, curriculum, and outcomes
  • Make recommendations for textbooks and educational support materials to the program coordinator
  • Submit course syllabi, course calendar, and assignments (contributing >20% of final grade) to the Applied Technologies Department
  • Meet grading deadlines as requested by Admissions and Records and deliver timely feedback/grades to students
  • Review teaching format, presentation, style, and procedures for potential improvement
  • Manage classroom attendance and record grades in a timely manner
  • Communicate effectively with students and colleagues using email
  • Use Blackboard as a course supplement
  • Participate in program-related events, including program meetings and industry advisory committee meetings

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a construction-related discipline or equivalent education/experience
  • Minimum of ten years of industry experience in construction management, particularly in a field management role
  • Demonstrated knowledge of construction surveying principles (site layout, measurement, building/grading layout techniques)
  • Proficiency in mathematical concepts and formulas used in surveying and layout
  • Experience operating surveying tools and equipment (e.g., total stations, levels, GPS systems)
  • Proficiency with and ability to use a Learning Management System (LMS) and other web-based instructional technology
  • Demonstrated experience teaching using a variety of delivery methods, online resources, and technology applications
  • Strong knowledge of the Construction and Design industry, particularly in the Washington Metro area
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting belonging, inclusion, and multicultural competence
  • Access to a personal computer with virus protection and internet connection outside of work
  • Eligible to work in the United States without a sponsor
  • Must live in Maryland or a state with payroll reciprocity (DC, VA, PA, WV, DE, MA)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a construction-related discipline or an associate’s degree in a construction-related discipline or related field or the equivalent combination of education, training, certification and/or experience
  • Minimum of ten years of industry experience in construction management, particularly in a field management role

Nice to Have

  • Master’s Degree in a construction-related discipline
  • Previous experience teaching construction surveying in a college or professional environment
  • Previous experience using Blackboard Learn
  • Familiarity with Zoom or Microsoft Teams web meeting platforms
  • Experience with screen recording software such as Camtasia or Screencast-O-Matic
