Part-Time Chaplain

About This Role

The Part-Time Chaplain will provide spiritual, social, and emotional support to patients and staff in a 224-bed psychiatric facility. This role involves ministering to the whole person, working independently within a pastoral team, and cooperating with the clinical team.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients and staff in meeting their spiritual, social, and emotional needs
• Minister to the whole person with an emphasis on the spiritual
• Work independently in the context of a strong pastoral team
• Cooperate with the interdisciplinary clinical team to provide quality services
• Advocate for patients and/or co-workers when the need arises
• Complete all annual training as assigned
• Comply with Department policy regarding vaccinations and TB testing
• Support all clients in their spiritual growth regardless of faith or lack thereof
• Respectfully support LGBTQ+ clients and staff in a supportive and non-judgmental manner

Requirements

• Understanding of mental illness or willingness to learn
• Good communication and listening skills
• Ability to be self-reflective about work
• Ability to work independently within a pastoral team
• Ability to work in emotional and stressful situations
• Ability to take direction and receive training on pastoral care for the mentally ill
• Ability to use computer and telephone systems effectively
• Willingness to support all clients regardless of faith
• Ability to respectfully support LGBTQ+ clients and staff

Qualifications

• Experience and education in ministry strongly preferred
