As a Part-Time Paramedic, you will provide professional emergency and non-emergency advanced life support care to patients in pre-hospital and emergency room settings. You will utilize critical thinking for independent judgments and adhere to the Iowa Department of Public Health Bureau of Emergency and Trauma Services Scope of Practice.
Responsibilities
- Proficiently drive ambulances in emergent and non-emergent situations
- Maintain ambulance cleanliness and restock supplies
- Perform patient assessment and initiate care using standing orders within scope of practice in the pre-hospital setting
- Follow direction of physicians or physician designees via telephone or radio communications when standing orders are not used
- Assess patient and family needs, provide appropriate teaching, and make necessary referrals for continuity of care
- Deliver high-quality care using the paramedic process, demonstrating knowledge and clinical skills in the emergency department
- Guide other EMTs in the delivery of quality patient care
- Work cooperatively with law enforcement and fire departments at scenes
- Work alongside other EMS personnel, nursing staff, and physicians as part of the care team in the emergency room
- Promptly complete documentation of prehospital patient care reports within 24 hours
- Promptly complete documentation in the patient’s EPIC chart
- Continue professional development and involvement in professional activities
- Maintain continuing education to support license renewal every two years
- Attend monthly staff meetings and training and serve on committees
- Assist with performance improvement and data collection, compilation, and reporting
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Paramedic program
- Must possess and maintain a valid clean driver’s license
- Must possess and maintain current Paramedic licensure in good standing
- Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS, and PALS certifications
- Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English
- Multicultural sensitivity
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office)
- Customer/patient focused
- Critical thinking skills using independent judgement in making decisions
