Paramedic - Critical Care

About This Role

The Critical Care Paramedic provides care and treatment to chronically or acutely ill and/or injured patients, adhering to established standards of care for the Critical Care Division. This role focuses on delivering superior patient care in a ground transport environment, collaborating with a healthcare team.

Responsibilities

• Provide evidence-based professional patient care and coordinate care delivery with other healthcare team members
• Administer and maintain pharmacologic agents and intravenous fluids during inter-hospital transports
• Operate and maintain proficiency with equipment including cardiac monitors, ventilators, hi-flow, and IV pumps
• Assist in maintaining unit readiness, cleanliness, and appropriate par levels for ambulance supplies
• Provide direct patient care based on assessment of physical, emotional, bio-physical, and spiritual needs, and evaluate outcomes
• Incorporate the principles of patient-centered care
• Manage and monitor intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) therapy during transport
• Provide transport care for patients supported by Impella devices, including hemodynamic monitoring and device troubleshooting
• Operate and manage advanced ventilator modes for critical patients during transport
• Maintain and interpret arterial lines for real-time blood pressure monitoring and sampling
• Safely transport patients receiving extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) support in collaboration with hospital teams
• Collaborate with online medical control physicians to manage complex patient care in transport
• Communicate patients' clinical information clearly and accurately in verbal and written format
• Document pertinent information clearly and accurately in patients' medical records
• Ensure safe operations during ambulance related activities in coordination with the Emergency Vehicle Operator

Requirements

• High School Diploma
• Completion of an accredited paramedic program
• Completion of an approved emergency vehicle driving course
• Unrestricted Driver's License with clean driving history
• Ability to lift, carry, and balance a minimum of 125 pounds equally distributed and 250 pounds with assistance
• Demonstrated high level of clinical competence
• Effective interpersonal skills, including verbal and written communication
• Basic math skills

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required; Completion of an accredited paramedic program
• 3-5 years' Experience as a Paramedic in a high acuity, high volume EMS system; Critical Care experience preferred

• PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) current by completion of orientation
• CCP-C - Critical Care Paramedic - Certified preferred or obtains specialty certification within 18 months
