About This Role

This Outpatient Registered Nurse (RN) position provides and coordinates clinically competent care, including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients within the End Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD) health care team. The role involves performing essential hemodialysis functions and participating in decision-making and quality improvement activities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform essential patient care functions under direction of Supervisor or with guidance from Clinical Educator, Preceptor, or other Registered Nurses
  • Perform ongoing, systematic collection and analysis of patient data pre-, during-, and post-hemodialysis treatment for assigned patients and document in medical records
  • Adjust or modify treatment plans as indicated and notify Team Leader, Charge Nurse, Supervisor, or Physician as needed
  • Assess, collaborate, and document patient/family’s basic learning needs to provide initial and ongoing education
  • Direct and provide, in collaboration with direct and ancillary patient care staff, all aspects of safe and effective delivery of hemodialysis therapy to assigned patients
  • Administer medications as prescribed or in accordance with approved algorithm(s), and document appropriate medical justification and effectiveness
  • Initiate or assist with emergency response measures
  • Serve as a resource for the health care team and participate in staff training and orientation of new staff as assigned
  • Ensure correct laboratory collection, processing and shipping procedures are performed and reschedule missed or insufficient laboratory collections
  • Identify expected outcomes, document and update the nursing assessment and plan of care for assigned patients through collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Team

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Current appropriate state licensure (RN)
  • Current or successful completion of CPR BLS Certification
  • Meet practice requirements in the state of employment

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Entry level for RNs with less than 2 years of Nephrology Nursing experience as a Registered Nurse; chronic/acute hemodialysis experience preferred

Nice to Have

  • Chronic/acute hemodialysis experience

Certifications

Current or successful completion of CPR BLS Certification (Required)
