About This Role

This role is for a compassionate and patient-oriented Orthotist and Prosthetist to provide high-quality orthotic and prosthetic services for adults and children at the University of Michigan Orthotics and Prosthetics Center. The individual will design, fabricate, and fit orthotic and prosthetic devices, and may supervise and participate in research.

Responsibilities

  • Design, fabricate, and write specifications for orthotic and prosthetic devices
  • Fit orthotic and prosthetic devices for patients with congenital deformities, amputations, and disabling conditions of the limbs and spine
  • Evaluate and treat complex, specialized patients for prosthetic and orthotic services
  • Plan for the fabrication of prostheses and orthoses in consultation with physicians, patients, and certified technical staff
  • Provide prosthetic and orthotic services, including proper patient education, coding, documentation in the electronic medical record, and coordinating rehabilitation activities with the health care team
  • Provide necessary follow up for all services, including re-education, maintenance, and repairs
  • Cover an on-call rotation for the University of Michigan Hospital to meet orthotic needs of in-patients outside of normal business hours
  • Represent the Orthotic and Prosthetic staff in UMOPC clinics, seminars, and specialty conferences
  • Conduct special projects and/or participate in research to improve patient outcomes, new methods, or new orthotic/prosthetic designs

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in orthotics and or Prosthetics or equivalent
  • Certification by the American Board for Certification in Orthotics and Prosthetics
  • Considerable experience in both Orthotics and Prosthetics or equivalent
  • Capable of moderate standing/walking, lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring of patients
  • Primary Source Verification

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in orthotics and or Prosthetics or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Considerable experience in both Orthotics and Prosthetics or the equivalent of education and experience is necessary

Nice to Have

  • Minimum of 3 years experience post-certification in Prosthetics and Orthotics
  • Experience with use of an electronic health record such as EPIC or OPIE
