About This Role

This Orthopedic Physician Assistant will work under the supervision of an orthopedic surgeon to provide comprehensive medical care and support to patients with musculoskeletal injuries and conditions, including patient assessment, treatment planning, and post-operative care.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough evaluations of patients, including medical histories, physical examinations, and diagnostic tests, to assist in diagnosing orthopedic conditions
  • Collaborate with the orthopedic surgeon to develop treatment plans for patients, which may include recommending surgical interventions, non-surgical treatments, and rehabilitation strategies
  • Participate in orthopedic surgeries by assisting the surgeon, performing specific tasks, and ensuring patient safety and comfort during procedures
  • Provide post-operative care to patients, including wound care, monitoring recovery progress, and adjusting treatment plans, as necessary
  • Prescribe medications, including pain management drugs and antibiotics, as part of the treatment plan
  • Administer joint injections, aspirations, and other minor procedures under the supervision of the orthopedic surgeon
  • Educate patients and their families about their orthopedic conditions, treatment options, and post-operative care instructions
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests, such as X-rays, MRI scans, and laboratory tests, to aid in the diagnosis and monitoring of patients
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, documenting patient encounters, treatments, and progress
  • Handle administrative tasks, such as scheduling appointments, responding to patient inquiries, and assisting with billing and insurance matters

Requirements

  • State licensure to practice in NYS and Connecticut

Qualifications

  • 2+ years' experience in Orthopedics preferred
