OR RN Specialty Flex Program

About This Role

This role will provide direct patient care activities, including assessment/evaluation, diagnosis, and plan implementation, to patients in the Operating Room. The Nurse will float to 12 BJC Healthcare Hospitals, offering a variety of experiences and opportunities to expand nursing skills.

Responsibilities

• Educate patients and their families about the communication process during the procedure, what to expect, and any support resources
• Serve as liaison between physician and the patient and family
• Demonstrate competence and independent practice in roles of scrubbing and/or circulating for all HSO-defined surgical services
• Use established safety techniques in preparing for and assisting with surgical procedures
• Provide and set up necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment for different types of surgeries or procedures according to established safety requirements and preferences of physician
• Keep patients safe from adverse events associated with surgery/procedure including infection, burns, pressure ulcers, wrong site surgery
• Observe patient during procedure to detect possible complications and/or breaks in sterile technique
• Furnish emergency equipment and supplies to prevent adverse outcomes
• Preserve and label operative specimens for analysis
• Participate in activities that promote safety, quality, and regulatory compliance
• Participate in professional development and life long learning
• Participate in orientation and preceptorship of new staff, as needed

Requirements

• 2+ years OR experience
• Nursing Diploma/Associate's
• RN License

• Nursing Diploma/Associate's
• 2+ years OR experience required
