About This Role

An Ophthalmic Technician assists ophthalmologists by performing technical duties and direct patient care, diagnostic testing, to ensure high-quality service and support the diagnosis, treatment, and management of eye conditions. This role contributes to Michigan Medicine's mission of improving lives through curing, treating, and preventing eye desease.

Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional patient care
  • Provide assistance to ophthalmologists
  • Perform testing related to diagnostic evaluation of the visual system
  • Assist in in-office procedures and treatments
  • Actively monitor clinic workflow
  • Assist in research studies
  • Assist in training and coordinating the work of other ophthalmic team members
  • Assist in onboarding new employees

Requirements

  • High school graduation
  • Experience as an ophthalmic technician (at least 2 years, at least COA or equivalent)
  • Commitment to prioritizing the welfare of the research volunteer
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Uncompromising integrity
  • Capacity and willingness to learn new skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Experience with computer keyboards and applicable software (e.g. MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook or equivalent)

Qualifications

  • High school graduation, college with health science courses desirable
  • At least 2 years experience as an ophthalmic technician (at least COA or equivalent) or 5 years for Intermediate Level, or 10 years for Senior Level

Nice to Have

  • Two years of college with courses in health science
  • Knowledge of Electronic Medical Records and medical terminology
