Operator Maintenance

About This Role

Perform a combination of equipment operations, preventive maintenance, and manual labor tasks related to roadway maintenance and construction. This role is essential for emergency operations and ensures proper work site safety and traffic control.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain light and medium-duty equipment for maintenance and construction
• Prepare and operate equipment for snow and ice removal or other emergency operations
• Clear roadways of snow, ice, and debris, and clean up after accidents
• Provide traffic control at work sites
• Operate and maintain heavy-duty highway equipment and vehicles
• Determine and demonstrate proper work site protection techniques using MUTCD
• Perform heavy manual labor and other maintenance tasks as part of a crew
• Perform maintenance repair, replacement, and preventive maintenance on equipment
• Complete pre-trip inspections for vehicles and equipment operated
• Install, maintain, and remove traffic control devices for work zones

Requirements

• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
• Ability to obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment and maintain thereafter
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor
• Ability to read and follow oral and written instructions
• Knowledge of highway maintenance equipment, materials, methods, and procedures
• Skill in the operation and maintenance of hand and power tools
• Skill in the operation and maintenance of light, medium, and heavy duty equipment used for highway maintenance and repair
• Ability to maintain inventory records and complete simple paperwork
• Knowledge and application of work zone safety, traffic controls and flagging operations (MUTCD)
• Knowledge of federal and state regulations regarding traffic control devices
• Working knowledge of work zone traffic control standards and techniques

Nice to Have

• Training, experience, or education in Maintenance, Vehicle Operations or related field
• Experience in emergency operations including snow removal, storms, and accident clean-up
• Experience in roadway maintenance and construction
• Experience performing preventive maintenance and minor equipment repairs
• Valid Commercial Drivers License with appropriate endorsements
