Nutrition Service Coordinator

About This Role

The Nutrition Service Coordinator (NSC) coordinates all food service and nutrition-related activities on a unit, acting as a customer service representative for the department. The NSC ensures timely and accurate meal service to patients, communicates diet changes to staff, and maintains galley cleanliness and inventory.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate all food service and nutrition related activities assigned to NSC on unit
• Act as customer service representative of the department
• Communicate with unit floor staff (OA/RN) regarding diet order status/changes as appropriate
• Provide menus to new admissions and patients with new diet orders to ensure timely meal service
• Prepare and serve meal trays, ensuring 100% accuracy of meal tray with meal ticket
• Assist patients with tray setup as needed (e.g., opening milk, juice, and condiments)
• Collect dirty trays and pass special nourishments to patients as appropriate
• Provide a high level of customer service, explaining menu selection and entering choices into the computer accurately
• Clean galley after each meal served and log temperature for refrigerators and freezers
• Inventory and order nourishments, supplements, and floor stock for nutrition and RN galley areas according to par levels

Requirements

• Ability to read, write, and speak English
• Basic math skills
• Basic computer proficiency
• Ability to lift 30 lbs and stand for extended periods
• Motor coordination
• Ability to organize work efficiently and quickly, meet deadlines
• Ability to understand and follow procedures
• Ability to use judgment and solve problems independently
