About This Role

This role works one-on-one with a Registered Nurse providing direct patient care, completing delegated tasks, and ensuring patient satisfaction in a collaborative, team-oriented work environment. It involves handling various patient needs, documentation, and maintaining supplies while adhering to University policies.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain vital signs and perform phlebotomy
  • Document patient information and care activities
  • Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s)
  • Order and stock medical supplies
  • Respond to patient call lights and orient new patients
  • Assist with patient admission, transfer, and discharge processes
  • Move patients from bed to wheelchair, stretcher, or treatment/surgical tables
  • Handle specimens and deliver them to labs
  • Prepare patients for surgical procedures

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • No experience required
  • One or more of the following: Kentucky Registered State Registered Nurse Assistant (SRNA), or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) for ED, or Registered Nurse (RN) nursing student who has completed first fundamental course and a clinical, or Military Medic, or current/active Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license, or Acquired Nursing Care Technician (NCT) competencies through continuous employment at the University of Kentucky, or Successful completion of the Earn While You Learn NCT Training Program within 8 weeks of hire
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support certification for the Healthcare Provider valid at time of hire, or completion of certification during Earn While You Learn NCT Training Program
  • Compassionate, honest, trustworthy, strong work ethic
  • Ability to work in a team and communicate effectively with staff, patients, and family members independently
  • Knowledge of CPR and basic concept of abnormal vital sign parameters
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, basic computer navigation skills, and a working knowledge of the Internet
