About This Role

This role is a Nursing Assistant Trainee position within a Registered Apprenticeship Program, offering classroom curriculum and on-the-job training to prepare individuals for a CNA, Grade 8 role upon successful completion.

Responsibilities

  • Ready patients’ room, greet and escort patient to their room, inventory possessions, assist with packing personal possessions during admission, transfer, or discharge
  • Prepare patients for meals, serve food trays and snacks, assist with feeding as needed, record food/fluid intake, keep water pitchers filled, assist with after meal care
  • Assist/provide patients with activities of daily living such as oral hygiene, bath functions, dressing/undressing, bowel/bladder functions, transporting, obtaining blood sugar levels, and vital signs
  • Provide all functions as delegated by Registered Nursing Staff
  • Ensure patient room is ready for expected admission, including name tags and admission kit
  • Conduct purposeful Rounding using the TLC model and respond to call bells in a timely manner
  • Alert nursing staff to abnormal findings during the execution of patient care duties
  • Stock patient care areas with necessary supplies and update white board with appropriate information
  • Help maintain a safe patient environment free of tripping hazards and provide constant observation as a safety sitter once trained
  • Comply with all mandatory education as assigned and accurately document all relevant patient care activities in the Electronic Medical Record

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalency or current enrollment in a co-op program
  • American Heart Association BLS certification required within 2 weeks of hire
  • Must be able to read, write, and follow written and oral directions in English at the 12th grade level
  • Excellent organizational skills and work pace consistent with working in a busy, acute care unit
  • Must be 18 years old

Qualifications

  • High School graduate or equivalency or current enrollment in a co-op program

Certifications

American Heart Association BLS certification (Required)
