Nursing Assistant II

About This Role

This role involves performing diagnostic tests and prescribed treatments, assisting patients with daily living activities, and ensuring patient safety within a healthcare team. The Nursing Assistant II reports directly to a registered professional nurse.

Responsibilities

• Provide patients with assistance in performing activities of daily living.
• Prepare patients for meals/snacks/liquids and assist with feeding as needed.
• Assist in the healthcare team's physical/psychological assessment of patients.
• Measure and record patient's Temperature/Pulse/Respiration (TPR), blood pressure, height, weight, intake/output, and bowel movement.
• Collect required specimens such as urine, feces, and sputum.
• Report observable changes in a patient's condition, treatment results, and/or patient/family concerns to the registered professional nurse.
• Perform various selected diagnostic tests and prescribed treatments under supervision of a registered nurse, including applying simple dressings, discontinuing intravenous peripheral therapies, performing electrode application and EKG, obtaining blood sugar results, assisting with Foley catheter insertion, cleansing pressure injuries, and applying buck traction.
• Participate in the healthcare team's responsibility to assure patient safety and respond to call bells/emergency lights.
• Recognize unsafe acts/conditions and correct or report them appropriately.
• Utilize side rails, restraints, and gerichair, and appropriately position patients, including transportation.
• Respond to fire, evacuation, and internal/external emergencies and drills.

Requirements

• High School Degree or equivalent
• Completion of a Nursing Assistant Course
• Minimum two (2) years of direct patient care experience
• Ability to communicate effectively
