This role is for an Oncology Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant focusing on comprehensive cancer care for Thompson Oncology Group patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. This individual will collaborate with supervising physicians, manage acute patient problems, and coordinate care with other specialties.
Responsibilities
- Triage telephone calls from patients, physicians, hospitals, home health, and hospice agencies requiring medical intervention, collaborating with physician(s) as necessary
- Perform evaluation and treat acute patient problems, including oncologic emergencies, chemotherapy related side effects, and complications from cancer diagnoses
- Consult with physician and other medical specialties as necessary; adjust processes as indicated
- Perform history, physical examination, analyze data for appropriate diagnosis and treatment, and initiate plans of care for inpatient and office consults in collaboration with the physician
- Monitor and ensure accuracy of recording on patient medical records
- Document patient history of present illness, review of systems, physical assessment, and plan of care in the patient’s medical record based off of office visit findings
- Responsible for conducting periodic review of policy and procedures
- Provide routine follow-up examinations and make recommendations for adjustments to plans of care, as appropriate
- Refer patient to appropriate services when complexity exceeds the scope of practice of the practitioner
- Provide pre-treatment chemotherapy education to patients and their families in the office setting
- Assist with preparation, administration, and supervision of chemotherapy as staff and physician coverage may require
- Assist with office medical procedures as required
- Provide first call coverage and assist with morning or evening hospital rounds as required
Requirements
- Certified by American Nurses Association or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners as an Adult, Family or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
- Meet State of Tennessee requirements as a Nurse Practitioner
Qualifications
- None specified for entry level, but sign-on bonus for 1+ years of oncology experience
Nice to Have
- Certification in Oncology by the Oncology Nurses Society
- 1-2 years oncology experience for $15,000 sign-on bonus
- 3+ years oncology experience for $25,000 sign-on bonus
