About This Role

Join NPI-7 to contribute to national security by ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant shipping of radioactive and hazardous materials. Perform critical tasks within a dynamic team environment, supporting various facilities at Los Alamos National Laboratory.

Responsibilities

  • Handle, package, and document hazardous and radioactive materials
  • Operate mechanical lifting equipment such as gantry/bridge cranes and forklifts
  • Manage RCRA storage areas, ensuring compliance with chemical storage, segregation, and handling requirements
  • Ensure all materials, processes, and products meet quality specifications and established requirements
  • Contribute to Integrated Work Documents, Detailed Operating Procedures, or other work planning documents
  • Perform upkeep and maintenance of records reflecting storage area, inventory and inspections, waste profiles, disposal requests, shipping paperwork, and waste characterization information
  • Understand inspection and/or characterization data on waste containers

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience in recognizing technical problems, applying analysis and testing, to identify suitable solutions and effectively document and communicate results
  • Demonstrated experience performing work and prioritizing tasks with nominal supervision, as well as contributing to a team in a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Demonstrated experience in proper use of personnel protective equipment including air purifying respirators
  • Demonstrated success in providing good customer service
  • Ability to understand inspection and/or characterization data on waste containers

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree and 3-5 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
  • 3+ years of experience in hazardous materials or waste management.

Nice to Have

  • Experience and participation in audits of material and/or management activities
  • Knowledge of Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 49 Parts 105-180
  • Knowledge of DOE O 460.1B Packaging and Transportation Safety
  • Knowledge of P151-1 LANL Packaging and Transportation Program Procedure
  • Active Q clearance
